Starting Over After 50 Is Not Too Late

Somebody needs to hear this plainly: your age is not a disqualification.

Moses was about eighty when God called him to lead Israel out of Egypt. Caleb was eighty-five when he said, “Give me this mountain.” If God counted people out at fifty, half the Bible would be missing.

Many people I counsel believe a quiet lie: that their best years are behind them, that the experience they carry is somehow expired. The truth is the opposite. Your second act is built on everything your first act taught you. The failures count. The skills count. Even the detours count.

Here is how a second act begins, in three simple moves. First, tell the truth about where you are — no shame, no pretending. Second, take stock of what you carry: skills, relationships, lessons, faith. You are not starting from zero; you are starting from experience. Third, take one step this week. Not ten steps. One. A call, an application, a page written, a door knocked on.

God is not finished with you. Called people do not expire.

If this is your season, my book Called, Not Done and the Second Act Workbook were written for you — both are on the Products page. And the Forum is open if you want to share what your second act might be. You will find people there who understand.
